Beauty trend: Microneedling
Hollywood stars swear by this: the Potenza RF microneedling system. The treatment increases collagen and elastin production to address advanced signs of skin aging. After the treatment, the skin looks younger, firmer, and smoother. We consulted with the Hamburg dermatologist Dr. med. Eveline Urselmann . The expert has been successfully performing the treatment for some time. In an interview, she explains the benefits and how the lasting glow is maintained.
What is RF needling and what is new and special about it?
Dr. med. Eveline Urselmann: RF needling combines two very effective and proven methods of aesthetic medicine: radiofrequency and microneedling. Both procedures stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin and promote the body's own hyaluronic acid production. The combination of these two methods enhances this effect and leads to even better results in a short time. Sagging skin in the cheek area, fine wrinkles, and under-eye bags are tightened, pores are refined, scars reduced, and acne significantly improved. Overall, this results in a fresh complexion with a glow effect. In our practice, we are enthusiastic about this procedure due to the beautiful results and have, of course, tested it ourselves multiple times.
What exactly happens during RF Needling?
With ultra-fine needles, radiofrequency energy is delivered into the skin. We use the Potenza system, which allows us to tailor the treatment individually to the skin and treat both superficial and deeper tissues while regulating the intensity of the treatment.
What can we expect during the procedure?
First, the skin is superficially numbed with an anesthetic cream, then the actual radiofrequency microneedling is performed. Either the entire face and/or neck and décolleté are treated, or only smaller areas. The skin on the abdomen, arms, or hands also benefits from this treatment. Finally, a soothing mask is applied. Overall, 90 to 120 minutes should be planned for the treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?
Typically, three treatments are performed at intervals of about four to six weeks. However, this is variable. Younger patients may only need two treatments for a freshening effect. For deeper wrinkles, more pronounced skin laxity, scars, and acne, four to six treatments may be necessary.
What downtime should be expected?
Every skin reacts differently, so experience is required here to provide specific advice. Usually, swelling and redness occur, which subside by the next day. Only with intensive treatment of the sensitive eye area can swelling (three to five days) last longer.
Who is it suitable for?
Basically, everyone can benefit from RF Needling. There are no restrictions regarding skin type; only the settings need to be chosen individually. For this reason, experience in treatment is an important prerequisite.
How long does the effect last?
The effect lasts up to one year and continues to improve for up to 6 months after a series of treatments. Of course, this also depends on lifestyle and skincare.
What can RF Needling be combined with?
Potenza is currently the only radiofrequency microneedling system on the market that can effectively deliver substances into the skin. This allows the effect to be further enhanced. An absolute increase in effectiveness is achieved by combining it with PRP autologous blood, also known as the vampire lift. This process extracts active regenerative factors from the patient's own blood and introduces them into the skin. This leads to a significant improvement in skin texture and rapid regeneration.
