Wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow loves it and has been swearing by it for years: dry brushing!
Dry brushing is a simple and effective way to take your skincare routine to the next level. Dry brushing is not only considered a real cellulite killer, but also an immune system booster. It's not just a trend, it's an age-old technique that makes your skin glow and offers numerous health benefits. Find out here what the brush massage is all about and what it's all about.

What exactly is dry brushing?
Dry brushing is when you use a natural bristle brush to gently stroke your dry skin. This brush can either have long, soft bristles or firmer bristles, depending on personal preference and desired intensity. The brush is passed over the body in circular motions, starting from the feet and moving upwards towards the heart.
The benefits of dry brushing:
- Improves circulation: dry brushing stimulates circulation, which transports more oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. The result is improved skin health and a glowing complexion.
Supports lymphatic drainage: Dry brushing helps stimulate lymphatic fluid and reduce congestion. This can help remove pollutants and toxins from your body and boost the immune system.
- Removes dead skin cells: The gentle bristles of the dry brush help to remove dead skin cells and impurities from the surface of the skin. This promotes smooth and soft skin and allows for better absorption of skin care products.
- Promotes detoxification: Dry brushing activates the skin and stimulates sweat glands. This can help eliminate toxins from your body and support natural detoxification.
- Reduces the appearance of cellulite: Regular dry brushing can improve the appearance of cellulite by increasing circulation and tightening connective tissue. This results in smoother and firmer skin.
Instructions: How does a dry brush massage work?
Start with dry skin and a natural bristle brush. Our recommendation is the Body Brush by Dr Barbara Sturm, but any other natural bristle brush will do the job. Gently stroke your skin in a circular motion, starting at your feet and working your way up. Be careful to avoid sensitive areas like the face and don't apply too much pressure to avoid irritation. After brushing, you can take a warm shower to wash away the dead skin cells, followed by a rich moisturiser to pamper your skin. I am a big fan of natural oils and highly recommend the Ayurvedic Body Oil by Basium.
Application: How often and for how long?
The best time for a full-body massage is in the morning, as it gets the circulation going and makes even the most tired morning person start the day fit. How much time you take for the full-body massage depends entirely on your personal preferences. However, you should plan five minutes for dry brushing in order to achieve lasting effects.
What are you waiting for? Get out your dry brush and let your skin shine!
